My son loves chicken nuggets, he could eat them everyday. If I’m being honest, so could I! Today I’m making these Southern Style Chicken Nuggets. They are hands down the crispiest chicken nuggets you’ll ever bake! I’m soaking them in pickle juice over night and then I’m using a secret ingredient in the batter which really allows them to crisp up in the oven.

Southern Style Chicken Nuggets

To make these crispy chicken nuggets, cut up your chicken breasts into chunks and add them to a large bowl. Next, fill the bowl with Pickle Juice until it’s completely covering your chicken. Cover the bowl, and refrigerate over night.

The Pickle Juice not only adds a phenomenal flavor to the chicken, but it also seriously tenderizes it! In a happy accident I grabbed the bread and butter variety of pickles and it added a deliciously subtle hint of sweetness!

Next, get ready to make these little nuggets of deliciousness into the crispiest chicken ever by adding my favorite secret ingredient!

Argo® Corn Starch For The Win

To prepare the batter, I’m using: flour, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, chives, and a hint of cajun seasoning. Then, I’m adding my secret ingredient: Argo® Corn Starch!

I’m also making a wet batter as well with the Corn Starch. For the wet batter or the “Slurry” as it’s called add a 1/2 cup of Corn Starch and a 1/2 Cup of water to a bowl. We will end up dipping the chicken in both to ensure extra crispiness! Double Dipping can be a good thing!

By adding the Argo® Corn Starch to the Slurry and the dry ingredients it really helps thicken up the coating. The corn starch helps them cook up crispy with a light and airy texture!

Argo® Corn Starch is the leading corn starch brand with over 100 years of quality, you can trust it to make all of your recipes a success! Plus, it’s naturally Gluten Free,

Corn Starch is very versatile . It’s often used as a thickener for sauces and soups. It’s the perfect ingredient to throw in the next time you’re making mongolian beef and it won’t let you down in your favorite chocolate cake recipe! Plus, it’s the ultimate secret for Crispy Chicken!

Baking The Chicken

Pre Heat your oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper . Spray the parchment paper with non-stick cooking spray.

With a fork take a piece of chicken (letting the pickle juice drip off a little), dip it in your Slurry, coat it evenly.

Dip the chicken into the bowl of dry ingredients, tossing it around until it’s covered. Place the chicken on the baking sheet leaving a few inches in between each.

Fill the baking sheet and place it in the oven. Set the timer for eight minutes. Once the timer goes off, remove the pan and flip each nugget over. Return the pan to the oven and set the timer for another eight minutes.

They are fully cooked when they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees. They should be crispy & golden brown on the outside!

Corn starch really is the unsung hero of nicely breaded fried anything. A lot of people don’t realize just how much better it makes the coating.
